Al Maktoum International (DWC) in Dubai South is the city's second airport, used mainly by budget carriers, charter operators, and some seasonal routes. It is far from everything: 45-55 km to Dubai Marina, further to Downtown. That distance changes the arrival math. At DXB there is always a wall of taxis; at DWC the rank holds a handful of cars, metered pickups carry a higher airport flag fall, and ride-hailing supply thins out badly at night because few drivers position themselves that far south. When a charter lands a full aircraft at 1am, the rank clears in minutes and the next taxis are 30-plus minutes away. The drive itself is straightforward. From DWC your driver joins E311 (Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road) northbound, then cuts across to E11 (Sheikh Zayed Road) near Jebel Ali for the final run into the Marina. The case for pre-booking at DWC is strongest for families. Arriving off a budget flight with children, a stroller, and four checked bags, then discovering the taxi rank holds two sedans and a queue of twelve people, is a bad start to a holiday.
