Route: Dubai to Saudi Arabia
Both Saudi destinations share the same first half of the drive. The route runs southwest from Dubai on the E11 Sheikh Zayed Road through Abu Dhabi and Ruwais to the Abu Dhabi-Sila Road, reaching the single UAE-Saudi land border at Al Ghuwaifat (UAE exit) and Al Batha (Saudi entry). After the border the highway splits: Dammam and Al Khobar sit in the Eastern Province and are the closer target, while Riyadh continues further west toward the capital. This is part of the wider Dubai to GCC car with driver network, and of the GCC land routes it is the one with the fewest border stops.

The Al Ghuwaifat / Al Batha Border Crossing
There is one land crossing between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and it is open 24 hours. It is the busiest land border for tourists heading into Saudi Arabia. The process:
- Exit UAE immigration at Al Ghuwaifat - passport stamped out and Emirates ID checked
- Short drive across to the Saudi side at Al Batha
- Saudi immigration - passport and Saudi eVisa presented and scanned (apply online before you travel; on-arrival processing at land borders is less reliable than at airports)
- Saudi customs - vehicle and baggage inspection, with the driver handling vehicle documentation and insurance
- Continue on Saudi highways toward the Hofuf junction, then on to Dammam or Riyadh
Crossing times vary widely: roughly 45 minutes to an hour on a quiet weekday, two hours or more during public holidays and weekends. Weekday morning crossings are usually fastest. Verify current border and visa status at booking, since procedures and eligibility change.

Why Not Fly Dubai to Saudi Arabia?
Both cities have frequent direct flights from DXB: Dammam is around 1 hour 15 minutes and Riyadh around 2 hours in the air. For a solo traveller on a tight schedule, flying is faster door to door once airport processing is counted, and we will say so plainly. The car with driver makes more sense when:
- Travelling as a group of 3 or more, where one vehicle beats several tickets plus transfers at both ends
- Carrying equipment, samples, or cargo that cannot be checked onto a flight
- Running a multi-stop trip across the Dammam, Al Khobar, and Jubail industrial belt
- Heading to a destination outside the city where a car would be needed on arrival anyway
- You prefer not to fly, or want a single door-to-door service without airport queues
Dammam in particular is close enough to the border to make the drive a realistic single day, which is why it is the Saudi destination most people actually book overland.
