Route: Dubai to Muscat
The standard Dubai to Muscat overland route follows the E311 (Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road) southeast from Dubai, transitioning to the E44 Hatta Road, crossing the UAE-Oman border at Hatta/Al Wajajah, and then continuing through Omani territory via the main Muscat highway through Al Batinah province into Muscat Governorate.

The Hatta Border Crossing
The Hatta / Wajajah border crossing is the standard overland entry point into Oman from Dubai. The process:
- Exit UAE immigration - UAE Emirates ID or passport stamped out
- Vehicle inspection (usually a brief document check for the vehicle)
- Enter Oman immigration lane - passport presented (no Oman visa required for UAE residents with UAE residence visa; most Western nationals and GCC nationals enter visa-free or via e-visa)
- Oman road tax/permit for the vehicle (a brief formality, handled by the driver)
Crossing times vary: 15-30 minutes during quiet periods, 60-90 minutes on peak weekends and public holidays when the crossing sees high volume. Allow additional time for Friday and Saturday morning crossings.

Why Not Fly Dubai-Muscat?
Muscat is served by direct flights from DXB (approximately 1 hour). For solo business travellers with tight schedules, flying is usually faster door-to-door when airport processing is included. The private driver makes more sense when:
- Travelling with 3+ people (one vehicle vs multiple flight tickets + airport transfers at both ends)
- Carrying equipment or samples that cannot be checked on a flight
- Meeting in a location outside Muscat city centre where a rental car would be needed anyway
- The flexibility of a direct door-to-door transfer without airport processing is more valuable than the time saving
- Returning at an unusual time (early morning, late night) when flight schedules are limited
