DXB Terminal 3: The Emirates Terminal
Dubai International Airport Terminal 3 is the largest building in the world by floor space (approximately 1.7 million square metres) and is the dedicated terminal for Emirates. It also handles a small number of partner carriers. Annual passenger volume through Terminal 3 alone runs into the tens of millions, which is why a T3 arrival can feel very different at 3pm and at 3am.
Terminal 3 uses three concourses. Concourse A is the dedicated A380 concourse and connects to the main terminal building by an automated people mover. Concourse B is the original T3 concourse, opened in 2008. Concourse C connects to Concourse B by passenger walkways. The practical point for anyone arranging a DXB Terminal 3 pickup: whichever concourse your gate is in, immigration, baggage reclaim and customs are all handled in one central Terminal 3 arrivals hall. Every T3 passenger exits into the same place, so you do not need to tell your driver a concourse number.
Arrivals at DXB Terminal 3: Taxi Rank, Pre-Booked Cars and Meet-and-Greet
Once you clear customs at Terminal 3 you walk out into the arrivals hall, and from there the ground transport options split into three distinct places. Knowing which one you are heading for before you land saves the most common mistake at T3, which is walking outside to the taxi line when a driver is already standing inside waiting for you.
- The Terminal 3 taxi rank - outside the arrivals hall. Dubai Airports signposts official taxi ranks at every terminal and Dubai Taxi Company vehicles queue there 24 hours a day. Follow the taxi signs from the arrivals hall and join the line; the airport starting fare published by Dubai Airports is AED 25, with distance charged on the meter from there.
- Ride-hailing pickup - a separate signposted zone. Uber, Careem and Bolt do not collect from the taxi rank at DXB. You book in the app and follow the marked signage to the pickup point, which is not the same door as the taxi queue.
- Pre-booked car service meeting point - inside the arrivals hall. A Terminal 3 car service driver does not queue at the rank. The driver waits in the meet-and-greet area of the T3 arrivals hall holding a name board, then walks you and your luggage to a vehicle already parked and waiting.
Dubai Airports has also introduced DXB Greet & Go at Terminal 3, a QR-code kiosk in the arrivals area for guests with pre-booked hotel, limousine or tour operator transport. You scan a code at the kiosk to see your assigned driver, vehicle registration and parking location, and staff walk you to the car. It is a formalised version of the same idea: your vehicle is allocated in advance rather than found in a queue.
The difference in practice is simple. At the taxi rank you get whatever car reaches the front of the line, and the price is decided by the meter and the traffic. With a pre-booked Terminal 3 pickup, the vehicle, the driver and the price are all fixed before you board your flight, and someone is standing in arrivals with your name on a board. From booking, your flight is monitored. If delayed, driver dispatch adjusts. No action required from you.
Driver confirmation
1 hour before landing: driver confirms they are en route to the terminal. You receive a WhatsApp with their name and vehicle details.
Arrivals hall
Clear immigration. Collect bags. Exit customs. Your driver is in the meet-and-greet area holding a name board (your name or company name).
Vehicle to destination
Driver handles bags to vehicle. You enter. Route confirmed. Departure to your destination.

Take the taxi if you are landing mid-afternoon with hand luggage, travelling alone or as a couple, going somewhere central, and you do not mind a variable fare. The rank is right there, it runs 24 hours, and for a short hop into the city it is usually the cheaper choice.
Book the car if any of the following apply: a 3am landing when several long-haul flights have emptied into the same hall at once; a family with children and car seats; four or more large cases that will not fit one saloon; a flight already showing a long delay; a first visit where you would rather not work out which exit you need at the end of a fourteen-hour flight; or a corporate arrival that needs an invoice and a fixed cost.

Terminal 3 Departures and Drop-Off
Going the other way is simpler than arriving, but the timing matters more. Terminal 3 departures sit on the level above arrivals, with kerbside drop-off bays directly outside the check-in hall. A pre-booked Terminal 3 car service drops you at those bays, unloads your luggage and leaves; there is no parking fee to settle and no walk from the car park with a trolley.
Two things decide when your driver should collect you. The first is your airline cut-off, which for Emirates long-haul is normally well before departure and is printed on your booking. The second is the road. Sheikh Zayed Road and Airport Road can add half an hour or more in the morning and evening peaks, and Terminal 3 is the busiest check-in hall at DXB, so the queue inside is part of the calculation too. When you book a T3 departure transfer, send your flight time rather than a pickup time and the pickup is worked backwards from it, with peak-hour traffic built in.
If you are flying from a different Dubai airport, note that Al Maktoum International (DWC) is a substantially longer drive from most of the city than DXB, and the departure pickup time changes accordingly.
Flight Tracking, Waiting Time and Delays at T3
The part of a Terminal 3 pickup that goes wrong most often is the gap between the scheduled landing time and the moment you actually walk out of customs. Immigration and baggage at T3 can be quick, or can take the better part of an hour when several wide-bodies arrive together. Here is how that is handled.
- Flight tracking from booking. Your flight number is monitored from the moment the booking is confirmed, so the driver dispatches against the live landing time, not the time printed on your ticket.
- Free waiting time. 90 minutes of free waiting after landing is included, which is intended to absorb normal immigration and baggage delays at T3.
- If the flight lands early. Tracking picks the earlier arrival up and the driver is moved forward. You will not be left waiting because the booking was made against the old time.
- If the flight is late. Dispatch shifts with the delay, and you do not pay waiting charges for a delay that was already visible on the tracker before the driver set off. On a long delay you get a WhatsApp with the revised pickup time.
- If you are held up inside. Message on WhatsApp from the baggage hall. The driver stays put rather than circling the terminal.
One orientation note that saves confusion: because Concourse A, B and C all feed into the same central arrivals hall at Terminal 3, there is no scenario where you and your driver end up at different exits. Get to the customs exit and the name board is in front of you.
Where Terminal 3 Arrivals Usually Head
Most T3 passengers are going to one of a handful of places. Approximate driving times from Terminal 3, off-peak first, then peak:
- Downtown Dubai and Business Bay - 20-30 min off-peak, 35-55 min in traffic. The shortest common run from T3, straight down Airport Road.
- DIFC - 25-35 min off-peak, 40-60 min in traffic. The standard corporate arrival from Terminal 3.
- Dubai Marina and JBR - 35-50 min off-peak, 60-80 min in traffic. The full length of Sheikh Zayed Road, and the run most affected by evening congestion. See the Dubai Marina to airport route for the reverse direction.
- Palm Jumeirah - 40-55 min off-peak, 65-85 min in traffic, plus time inside the Palm itself depending on which frond or hotel you are heading for.
