Typical Taxi Fare: Dubai to Sharjah
For most Dubai to Sharjah journeys, a metered RTA taxi will cost between AED 60 and AED 120. The variation depends on three main factors: your pickup point in Dubai (Deira is much closer to Sharjah than Marina or JBR), your destination in Sharjah, and how much time you spend in traffic.
The Salik electronic toll of AED 4 applies on some crossing points between the two cities and is added to your metered fare. Some Dubai taxis charge a slightly higher rate at night, so late-evening trips will cost more per minute than daytime journeys.
How Traffic Affects the Fare
The E11 (Al Ittihad Road) and E311 (Emirates Road) between Dubai and Sharjah are consistently congested during morning and evening peak hours. A journey that costs AED 70 during a quiet midday period can run to AED 110 or more during the morning rush, simply because the meter runs while you sit in traffic.
Off-peak times (9:30am to 4pm, weekends excluding Friday morning, after 9pm) generally give you a predictable fare. Peak hours are unpredictable by definition.
