Dubai to RAK Taxi Fare: The Short Answer
Ras Al Khaimah is abbreviated to RAK almost universally in the UAE, including by drivers, so the two names describe the same journey and the same price. Here it is in one block:

Fare by Journey
Both directions cost the same on paper. They do not cost the same in practice, because a Dubai driver taking you north knows the road home is empty, and a RAK driver bringing you south knows the same thing in reverse.

Why the Meter Stays Off
The metered figure is worth knowing even though you will rarely be charged it, because it tells you whether a quote is fair. A Dubai RTA taxi runs a flag fall of AED 5.00 by day, AED 5.50 from 10pm to 6am, and roughly AED 2.19 per km. Over 115 km the distance charge alone is AED 251.85, so a metered run lands near AED 257 before any waiting time. Most of the RAK route has no Salik gates, so tolls barely feature.
That number is the ceiling. A negotiated AED 180 or AED 200 is below what the meter would have produced, which is why the arrangement suits both sides: you pay less than the metered rate, and the driver banks one confirmed long fare rather than assembling the same money from a dozen short city trips. If a quote comes in above AED 260 outside a weekend surge window, you are being asked to pay more than the meter, and it is reasonable to say so.
RAK to Dubai: The Return Direction
The fare band is identical southbound. Availability is not. Ras Al Khaimah has a much thinner taxi fleet than Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and the gaps show up exactly when travellers need a car: early morning departures, and late afternoon pickups from a resort or from the Jebel Jais road. The same cross-emirate rule that applies everywhere in the UAE applies here: a taxi may drop you in another emirate but cannot pick up a passenger there for the return trip. So the Dubai driver who brought you north cannot legally collect a fare in RAK, and the RAK driver who takes you south cannot collect one in Dubai. Both drive home empty, both know it, and both price accordingly. It also means the car that dropped you is not an option for getting back.
How Far is Dubai from Ras Al Khaimah?
Approximately 115 km. There are two ways to cover it and they behave differently. The E311 Emirates Road runs north through the interior and bypasses the Sharjah and Ajman congestion completely, which is why drivers default to it. The E11 coastal alternative passes through Sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain, is more interesting to look at, and is reliably slower because it inherits the Sharjah corridor traffic. Taxi or Pre-Booked Transfer: The Honest Split
A negotiated taxi is a perfectly sensible way to do this trip one way. Heading north on a weekday with luggage you can carry, no fixed arrival time, and a hotel at the far end that can arrange your return, AED 180 is good value and there is no reason to pay more for a private car.
It stops working when the return leg is yours to solve. Jebel Jais has no waiting taxis and patchy phone coverage. Resorts can call a car but not conjure one at 5pm on a Saturday when every other guest wants the same thing. And a fare quoted at the kerb in Dubai is not a booking, so a 6am departure depends on a driver being willing on the morning rather than on anything you have agreed.
